Revisiting my past as a commercial artist

Just thought I would share this Mural which I painted back in the 90's on a pub wall. I was a fully employed commercial painter and designer in the world of Pubs and Restaurants for 10 years and this mural was a favourite of mine. 50 square meters on a pub garden wall in Oxford. It is no longer there as they took it down, however as it was on 3/4 inch marine ply it still exsists, somewhere. We don't know where as it was stollen on the night it was taken down.

The New Gallery is well and truly open and has a new swish feel. The paintings are really looking their best as you can see from the picture.
I feel a new beginning and to see the work glowing in a stylish environment gives me new energy.
New work will be flowing in 2011 and I will post them here as they flow out

Here is my press release for my Spring Exhibition

Vibrant art celebrates New Beginning at Plymouth’s Royal William Yard

Martin Bush presents New Beginning, his spring show of new paintings charting a year in his life as artist in residence at the Royal William Yard. Displaying both exuberance and restraint, the works follow a journey through seasons and emotions; dark and moody pieces are counterbalanced by vibrant colourful canvases; small and intimate jewels cohabit with large jaw-dropping visions.

Colour, movement and energy remain at the core of this new beginning; as well as opening up fresh avenues of expression, reinterpretation brings added depth and perspective to both his more figurative and pure abstract painting. The journey has animated an enthusiasm which has freed Martin to breakthrough to a higher level; vibrancy transcends feeling and reality to go beyond the present to imagine a dreamt world.

It is interesting to be able to look back over a year and reflect on an artist’s mood changes as the seasons pull and twist his palette and attitude to what is created. The influences of the Royal William Yard’s past, estuarine position and rebirth can be sensed as the art delves in and out of pure abstract through striking, vibrant colours and sumptuous marks contrasting with darker more subtle tones.

The exhibition in the New Cooperage, Royal William Yard, Plymouth, PL1 3RP is open Tuesdays to Sundays from 21st May to 30th June.

New Beginning

And finally the air is warm and the world seems a better place to digest my indulgence to paint with new vibrent paintings. It seems so much more like this is worth doing when one can simply think about marks and colour with movement and depth all interacting on the canvas, rather than can I stop shivering.

Sunday, 7 March 2010

Hay it's March and still kicking around 3 degrees in my gallery, not good for punters all though yesterday was warmer and it made the difference with a client or 2.
Here is a new painting that some how made it out of the cold onto canvas and feeling this spell of cold is not going to dampen my spirits and I WILL PAINT.

Thursday, 18 February 2010

Finding my way in this new year has finally begun and the feeling of the new work seems to be influenced from previous free flow work. Indulging mind and soul with what has been a "S A D" few months with the mind effecting weather making the most of my soul. From somewhere positive emotion laid it self in front of me or is it doing the painting that drives me out of this negative turmoil of cold dark empty February.
Well it seems I am starting to blossom in my work once again and this new work is engaging my thoughts with electric emotion, I am wowing it, does it wow you?

Commission Dec 2009

Commissioned by private client in July 2009 this painting was to fit a very large wall along side another painting that I delivered in July called Journey into Nature. Flooding the canvas with free flow marks and almost falling into the painting the marks come together in a crescendo of mood and colour. A very happy client on delivery in November.

Me at work and my latest commission is done July 2009

Starting a new Blog as I cant switch from my other account and had to keep signing out of Google Mail, how frustrating and rubbish this siber world can be

Where it all began in Plymouth

Well it all began December 2004 in what is known as the Brewhouse in The Royal William Yard, Plymouth when I was offered to use one of the yards cavernous spaces to paint and display my work. Likened to a gold fish bowl as the sales suite to the posh apartments was the other side of a glass wall people would see the development of the Bush world and so I began to paint in what I call my professional mind.
